The picture shows Stanford undergrads Yihana Ritter and Matt Sahagun celebrating after deploying the last of 2000 seismographs, in the Alvord Desert with Steens Mountains in the background. In addition to conventional wide-angle profiles, we experimented by using the single-component "Texan" seismographs to record 3-component data; by using an earthquake-engineering 3-component vibrator to carry out high-resolution profiling across an active low-angle normal fault; by designing an ATV-mounted magnetometer to do rapid potential field acquisition; and by integrating passve-source recordings into our acquisition and interpretation.
